Are You Without The Woolwich?

Issued on behalf of the Principality Building Society
WALES’ largest building society has taken on one of Britain’s biggest high street banks in a drive to win new customers.
Principality Building Society has launched a campaign across Wales and the borders to woo disillusioned Woolwich savers and borrowers.
The campaign – aptly called Are You Without the Woolwich? – targets customers affected by the restructuring of the banking giant Barclays that will see all Woolwich branches either closing or re-branding as Barclays.
A major poster and PR campaign is underway in cities, towns and communities all over Wales, with Principality offering Woolwich customers a new home for their money – and a traditional mutual building society service similar to the one they have been used to.
The campaign has seen a team of town criers on the streets of Swansea, Newport, Neath, Llanelli, Shrewsbury, Hereford and Chester shouting about the advantages of moving to a Welsh building society.
Peter Griffiths, chief executive of Principality Building Society, said: “We are proud to be a mutual building society which means that, unlike the banks, we don’t have shareholders and we are owned by our customers. A number of Woolwich customers have voiced their concerns about the closures and of the changes to their savings accounts as they are transferred over to be Barclays accounts. We are simply offering these customers in Wales another option.
“In a recent customer satisfaction survey, two thirds of our members said they would be likely to recommend Principality to friends and family. This is testament to the personal and professional service we provide to our customers on high streets up and down Wales and the borders.”
