Artists Bid for Business at Ideal Business Show

By admin

Issued on behalf of Ideal Business Show Wales

Artists from Wales will bring a colourful and creative dimension to the Ideal Business Show Wales on Wednesday June 13th and Thursday 14th.

The work of around 14 artists be on display at the Creatives stand (124) at the Millennium Stadium show where there will also be an artist in residence – former coal miner Gary Ford from Ebbw Vale.

Gary, who’s just finished his MA at Cardiff University, will spend the first day – next Wednesday – making sketches around the show. He’ll devote the following day to painting the picture – which will be finished that day when the show comes to an end.

It’s all the brainchild of Prith Biant whose company Creatives was set up to promote Wales-based artists in business.

“We work with more than 65 artists in a variety of media and aim to provide whatever type of art is requested,” said Prith.

“Creatives’ stand will feature work from around 14 artists – it will definitely add a splash of colour to the event. Gary will be doing the painting on the stand – probably in acrylics – on the second day and people can watch it take shape.

“We’ll also have textile artist Laura Thomas on the stand on the Wednesday to talk about her work and on the Thursday ceramicist Lisa Tann will be working on a sculpture.”

Gary’s finished picture will be given to Ideal Business Show Wales but the other work is for sale – and on that note Creatives offer some creative options for businesses.

“Art work can be commissioned to fit particular interiors, selected from a vast portfolio or even rented out which means it can be changed every 3-4 months,” said Prith.

“We’re also offering an ‘Art Make-over Challenge’ in which businesses can sign up to have their workplace transformed for £1,000 – just by us going in and placing art. It makes a better environment for staff and for customers alike.”

And just to show that theatre in Wales is also quick to pick up on business opportunities, the Copthorne Theatre will be entertaining visitors to the Ideal Business Show Wales every hour, on the hour – throughout the day.

“We have a troupe of resident actors who perform live musical theatre shows at the Dining Theatre in our Hotel,” said Copthorne marketing manager Lucy Atkinson.

“They’ll be performing songs with a fresh selection from various West End shows – Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Spamalot .* for 10 minutes every hour on the hour. They’ve proved a big attraction at the Copthorne where dining bookings are up and clients are booking this entertainment for their corporate events.”

The event is sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government, with Newport & Gwent Chamber of Commerce as partners, support from the Institute of Directors, the Federation of Small Businesses, Cardiff Chamber of Commerce, Cardiff County Council and the Western Mail is the official media partner.
