Taking the Challenge – To Help Raise a Million
Issued on behalf of Cancer Research Wales
STAFF at one of Cardiff’s biggest companies will be helping to fight cancer in Wales this Friday (June 1).
Up to 2000 staff at Legal and General will be taking part in the ‘Million Mile Challenge’, organised by Cancer Research Wales, during their working day.
The Million Mile Challenge was launched a year ago by the Cardiff-based charity, which asks participants to complete just one mile of any activity and give £1 in sponsorship money in return.
The activity can be in any form – walking, running, cycling or swimming one mile. You could even push a trolley around the supermarket for a mile, ice skate, play tennis or take up golf and walk around the links for a mile.
Staff at Legal and General will be allowed to leave their desks on Friday to complete a mile of activity in the on-site gym at Brunel House.
They hope to raise thousands of pounds to help Cancer Research Wales with its work funding research in Welsh hospitals. Cancer Research scientists are currently looking at ways of stopping breast and prostate tumours from spreading to other parts of the body.
Liz Andrews, deputy fundraising director at Cancer Research Wales said: “The Million Mile Challenge is something we would like everyone in Wales to become involved in. A mile of any sort of activity is achievable for almost everyone, and every £1 raised will go a long way towards helping us fund vital research.”
“It’s great that Legal and General has decided to get involved in this challenge, as it will not only help Cancer Research Wales, but also encourage staff to keep fit and active.”
