Invest In A Welsh Movie And Get A Walk-On Part

An exciting opportunity with attractive fringe benefits is being offered to Welsh investors – help finance a movie and get a walk-on part.
The opportunity is being offered by Cardiff-based Castle Court Consulting Ltd who have been asked to raise finance for a feature film, Abraham’s Point. It’s being made in Wales and will star Mackenzie Crook, who made his name alongside Ricky Gervais in multi-award-winning show The Office before going on to Hollywood success with Johnny Depp in all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
The £1.2 million film is being made by Spinning Head Films and with most of the finance already in place it is certain to go ahead. Filming was set to begin in mid-July but has been put back to September because Mackenzie Crook is still filming another movie with Tom Hanks and Bill Murray. A completion bond bondsman will also be on set to ensure that everything runs on time and to cost.
“Occasionally opportunities arise which provide an element of fun along with exciting potential for returns. Whilst investment into the film industry is not one of our core activities, we believe that Abraham’s Point captures both the creative and entrepreneurial spirit prevalent in Wales,” explained Andy Booth of Castle Court Consulting.
“Any investment supporting the film industry is speculative and carries some degree of risk. However, we have ensured that this particular film investment carries significant benefits.
“Primarily, there is no question on the commencement and completion of the film as there were sufficient funds raised initially to ensure that the project is financially secure.
“Secondly, the investor funds are wrapped in an EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme) which basically means that in the unlikely event of the film achieving zero profitable revenue, the investor is still left with 52% of the original investment.
“An individual’s investment attracts 20% tax relief, hence only 80% of the original money is at risk. Should there be no return the balance is deductible against 40% income.
“And the really good news is the final projections actually show a minimum return of £800 on every £1,000 invested with the potential to double your money in three years,
“The minimum investment is just £5,000 – much lower than usual because so much of the finance is already in place. And the deal is that for £10,000 investors also get a walk-on part and an invitation to the premiere, while for £25,000 they will also get an on-screen credit.”
As for the film itself, director Wyndham Price, said: “It’s a redemptive tale about an insomniac french polisher called Comet Snape and his journey away from a dark repressive city life in London to the vast open beaches of West Wales where he suffered a family tragedy 20 years ago.
”Mackenzie Crook is absolutely perfect for the lead and he’s very excited about it.”
Also appearing will be former Stereophonics drummer and TV presenter Stuart Cable with his band Killing For Company. And one investor has already come forward to take advantage of Castle Court’s £25,000 offer to get a walk-on part and credit.
Filming is scheduled to finish on October 20 and, with the film pencilled in for a premiere next spring, sales agents are already working on the distribution.
