Swansea Rugby Player Scores Jackpot

By admin

Issued on behalf of the National Lottery

Local women’s rugby player Annie Owens (21) bought a Lotto ticket to cheer herself up after work and has been smiling ever since – after landing a £1.6 million share of the jackpot.

The factory worker from Morriston, Swansea, decided she suddenly felt lucky and popped out to her local shop to buy a Lucky Dip® ticket for Saturday’s draw. Last weekend has been described as the luckiest of the year because of Saturday’s auspicious date (7 July 2007, or 07/07/07) and Annie’s luck was definitely in – the feeling that she was about to strike it rich came true, as she rang up a massive Lotto jackpot win worth £1,655,605.

Annie, who works as a team leader on a production line at the Ethnic Cuisine factory in Llansamlet, Swansea – which makes ready-cooked meals for Sainsbury’s – is a huge rugby fan and keen player of the sport. A supporter of the Ospreys club, she plays scrum-half for Birchgrove Ladies RFC. She is now planning to take her team-mates on a celebration weekend away, as well as buy them a new strip with some of her winnings.

Annie said: “Nothing had gone right for me all day and I’d had an awful day at work, but as I walked through the door at home I just felt lucky all of a sudden. I told my mum I was just nipping out to get a Lotto ticket – and look what happened. Mind you, I should have known – three times in the previous week or so I had read in different horoscopes that my finances were about to take a turn for the better, and they certainly have.”

She continued: “To be honest, I haven’t got a clue what to spend the money on – the whole thing just hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m learning to drive so I’ll probably look at buying a new car, but as for the rest of the money I’ll just bank it and go back to work. I love my work so I couldn’t imagine giving it up.

“When this has all settled down I’m going to host a party in our rugby club for all my family and friends and we can really have a night to remember.”

Annie’s winning Lotto Lucky Dip ticket was bought from Pompas Store in Chemical Road, Morriston, Swansea. The winning Lotto numbers on Saturday 7 July were 16, 22, 28, 30, 33, 35, and the bonus ball 37.

Tomorrow night’s Lotto jackpot (Wednesday 11 July) is an estimated £2.5 million, while this Friday’s (13 July), there is a £36 million estimated EuroMillions jackpot available to win. Every Lotto play slip now comes with its own Dream Number – it is up to players to mark ‘yes’ to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip.
