Update Give Me Five Award (Shropshire Star)
By admin
Issued on behalf of the Principality Building Society
APPLICATIONS for the £5,000 Shropshire Star-Principality Give Me Five treasure chest are already being drawn up – less than a week after the award was offered up to local community groups and charities.
Principality Building Society, which has teamed up with the Shropshire Star to give away the £5,000 award to a group or charity in the Shropshire, Mid Wales and Borders, has received calls from a number of groups keen to cash in on the offer.
Among them are the Friends of Treowen School in Newtown, a group dedicated to raising funds for the school and which is looking for money for a project to transform an area of wasteground into an educational garden.
Interest in the Give Me Five award has also come from the Buttington/Trewern Community Centre near Welshpool, where they are planning to install disabled toilets in the building for the use of the local community.
Designed to help community organisations and charities make a real difference to the communities they serve, the Give Me Five campaign aims to give those groups the chance to kick-start, complete or continue the good work of a worthwhile project close to the needs of its community.
The £5,000 award for the region covered by the Shropshire Star is one of five similar awards being given away this summer across Wales and the Borders by Principality Building Society to mark Principality’s achievement in reaching the significant milestone of £5 billion in assets.
Principality chief executive Peter Griffiths said: “We are delighted with the swift and positive response to the launch of the Give Me Five campaign in the Shropshire Star. The newspaper’s readers are already grasping the opportunity to apply for the £5,000 award on behalf of a local community group or charity, and we would encourage as many as possible to do so.
“The Shropshire Star-Principality Give Me Five £5,000 award will be given to a clearly-defined project which is making – or will make – a difference to the people within its community. It needs to be full of life, close to the community it serves, meets a defined need and is innovative.”
The group, project or local charity that you think deserves the money needs to show it is making a real difference to its community – and the £5,000 would help to make a real difference to your nominated project.
So, if you are involved in a project – or you benefit from or just know of one – that could do with a £5,000 injection of support to make a big difference to your community, then apply today for the Shropshire Star-Principality Give Me Five award.
The award will go to a clearly defined project which will make a difference to the area in which the applicant lives. It should also reflect Principality Building Society values – be full of life, is close to the community, meets a defined need and innovative.
Nominations can be made by filling in the form alongside and we’ll send you an application form; or you can download a form from the Principality website at www.principality.co.uk/givemefive; call Give Me Five awards co-ordinator Pat Ashman on Cardiff 029 2077 3318; or pick up an application form at any Principality Building Society branch.
