Career Path: Began playing rugby at the age of four with Newport HSOB Club. Joined Newport RFC Youth at 17, made senior debut at 18. Signed for Leeds Tykes in 2002; returned to Wales in 2005 and is now in third season with The Scarlets. Capped 25 times for Wales.
Your company and what it does: 8 Total Management offers a complete management service for professional sportsmen and women, from legal support, accountancy and tax advice, kit deals, promotional partnerships, nutritional advice and PR and media advice and support.
What is unique about your company/product offers? It is the only complete management agency of its kind in Wales offering a full professional service to sportsmen and women, TV personalities and figures in showbusiness.
What could your company/product change about the world? I don’t know about changing the world, but we would certainly hope to help some of our clients to make the most of their careers by allowing them to concentrate solely on their performance while we take care of absolutely everything else.
Who is your inspiration in business? I’m a great fan of the TV entrepreneur programmes like The Apprentice and Tycoon. They inspire me. But I have a deep admiration for anyone who makes a success in business through sheer hard work, determination and self-belief.
Where did the original funding for the company come from? One of the beauties of 8 Total Management is we haven’t needed funding. It’s a business that operates in the worlds of sport, TV and showbusiness where contacts are king. The three partners of 8 Total Management – myself, Darwin Gray law firm partner Jason Smith and Effective Communication PR managing director Alastair Milburn – boast such a wide network of contacts that we each bring something different to the party.
