Issued on behalf of the National Lottery
A 24-strong syndicate of undertakers and builders is now planning to celebrate after winning a £462,999 Lotto prize in the draw on Wednesday 22 August 2007.
The 21 men and three women, who all work for the family-owned firm, Pritchard & Griffiths in Tremadog, Porthmadog, matched five main numbers plus the bonus ball. The Lotto win means each syndicate member will collect £19,270 – beating their previous biggest win which came just three weeks ago when they shared £74. The syndicate members plan to spend their winnings on holidays, new cars and DIY.
Syndicate leader, Richard (Dic) Wyn Williams (56), of Porthmadog, said: “I checked the numbers on teletext on Wednesday night and saw we had won but not the amount. My son Harry volunteered to stay up to find out how much our share was. When he woke me at 2am and told me I couldn’t believe it.
“Everyone is excited about the news. We’ve been thinking about having a bit of a party to celebrate, but some of the lads are still away on holiday and we’ll have to wait until they get back. I know what I’m going to buy first – a new strap for my watch as I’ve just broken it!”
Their winning Lotto ticket, which was a random selection of regular numbers, was bought at the Spar store in High Street, Porthmadog. The winning numbers were: 18, 31, 35, 39, 40, 42 and the bonus ball was 32.
Tonight’s (Friday 24 August) the EuroMillions Rollover jackpot is an estimated £18 million, while tomorrow’s (Saturday 25 August) Lotto jackpot is an estimated £4.5 million. Every Lotto play slip now comes with its own Dream Number – it is up to players to mark ‘yes’ to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip®.
