Mela Aims to Raise Awareness of Cancer Charity

By admin

Issued on behalf of Cancer Research Wales

A CANCER charity which spends all its money in Wales on research and patient support will benefit from the country’s largest multicultural event taking place in Cardiff this weekend (SUN AUG 19).

The Cardiff Mela – a celebration of Asian culture, food, fashion and entertainment – is expected to attract around 10,000 people to the all day event at the Cardiff International Arena this Sunday, August 19.

All profits raised from the event, which also includes a live music and dance concert in the evening, will go directly to Cancer Research Wales.

The charity, which is based in the grounds of Velindre Hospital in Whitchurch, Cardiff, funds vital research projects for services and treatments for cancer patients in Wales. The charity ensures that all money raised is spent in Wales.

Cardiff Mela organiser Shaz Haris (CORR) said: “More than, £1,000 was raised at last year’s Mela for Cancer Research Wales and hopefully due to the public’s interest in this year’s event and the new much bigger venue, we can double that amount this year.
“Cancer has no boundaries. It spans across all religions, social sectors and cultures and causes such cruel distress and pain to so many – regardless of who you are or where you are from.

“By highlighting the charity at the Mela we are hoping to raise the public’s awareness of the charity and at the same time help to fund the pioneering work that they are carrying out in Wales.”
