Surgery Joins Fundraising Walk for CRW

overview

Staff at a doctor’s surgery in Cardiff are set to don their silly wigs for the Pink-a-Blue fundraising walk around Cardiff Bay, in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

The fundraising team, consisting of seven members of administration staff at Whitchurch Road Surgery in Cardiff, has suitably named themselves Suzie’s Surgery Sweeties, after team member Sandra Bishop’s (58, originally from Mynachdy) twin sister, Sue Cox- who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

For the second year running, Cancer Research Wales will be hosting its annual four mile Pink-a-Blue walk on Sunday 9 September. The event which begins at The Norwegian Church and takes in the sights of the Wales Millennium Centre and Welsh Assembly building, aims to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Cardiff-based charity
Everyone signed up for the walk is asked to wear either pink, to represent the research into breast cancer, or blue to show support of prostate cancer research – two of the most common cancers affecting people in Wales.

Suzie’s Surgery Sweetie Laura Whitely, 22 from Canton, who is in charge of coordinating the fundraising efforts at the surgery said: “All of the team are really looking forward to the walk, as not only is it a great event for a team to take part in together but it also raises much needed awareness of prostate and breast cancer.

“At the surgery we meet many people that either have cancer themselves or have a loved one that has been diagnosed. By raising money and awareness we are hopefully helping to support the work of Cancer Research Wales and at the same time expressing our support and thoughts to all of those who have been affected by the disease.

Liz Andrews, Deputy Charity Director for Fundraising at Cardiff -based Cancer Research Wales said; “It is great that workplaces like Whitchurch Surgery are supporting Cardiff’s Pink-a-Blue Walk. All of the money raised remains in Wales, where it goes towards the funding of vital research into the disease and groundbreaking treatments.”

Registration for the walk is £5 per person. For further details please contact Cancer Research Wales on Cardiff 02920 316976.
