Issued on behalf of Darwin Gray Solicitors
A Welsh discrimination law specialist has been invited to speak at the international launch of a major French anti-racism initiative.
Eleanor Williams, of Cardiff-based Darwin Gray Solicitors, will speak at the launch of a guide to tackling race discrimination in French employment. The launch will take place in Paris on September 27 and is part of the French activity in the European Year of Equal Opportunities.
The guide has been produced by the AFIP (Association pour Favoriser l’Intégration Professionnelle) which aims to tackle racism in employment by offering coaching and support to young ethnic minority graduates and raising awareness among human resource managers. This approach is said to be unique and new in a country where offering targeted support to specific groups is usually considered divisive.
Eleanor is one of six high profile speakers and has been invited to offer a British perspective on race discrimination in employment which is very different from the French approach.
The other speakers are the director of HALDE – the French equivalent of the CEHR (Commission for Equality and Human Rights) which will be launched in Britain next month, the president of L’Oreal, the president of General Electric France, the vice-president of CBS News and top American employment lawyer Marcia Cohen.
Eleanor, who is also a guest lecturer at Ecole de Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Lille, will deliver her speech in French.
