Welsh Star Tackles New Business

WALES international Alix Popham is tackling a new challenge – the launch of a sports management business.
The Llanelli Scarlets forward, currently with the Wales team at the Rugby World Cup squad, has launched 8 Total Management, offering a ‘unique’ service to clients.
Clients already include himself, fellow Wales stars Chris Horsman and Gavin Evans, and Scarlets Lou Reed, Jonathan Davies, and Ceirion Thomas, as well as athlete Rhys Williams and former Wales team analyst Alun Carter.
Alix’s fellow directors and investors in the business are commercial law specialist Jason Smith, a partner with Darwin Gray Solicitors, and former award-winning editor and PR expert Alastair Milburn, managing director of Effective Communication.
“We are offering our clients a unique service,” said Alix.
“Rather than an agent who is a jack of all trades and a master of none, we have brought under one umbrella, experts in their respective field who are able to give their specialist advice on services ranging from contract negotiations, wealth planning, accountancy, public relations, media management and publicity and promotions.
“We are also not going to be a company that only puts in an appearance when it’s time to negotiate a new contract for a client.
“We have put together a package of products and services for our clients which will help to make their lives much easier, enabling them to concentrate on their performance on the field.”
As part of their services, the new company will also be promoting their clients for a range of promotional and educational events, including after-dinner speaking, motivational training, launches, and media opportunities.
Fellow director Jason Smith, who has been negotiating players’ contracts for several years, said: “Obviously, we are all extremely excited by the launch of this new company.
“We believe we are bringing something new to the marketplace, and are looking forward to helping our clients as they develop their careers both on and off the pitch.”
Alastair Milburn said: “All three directors are involved in other companies, and we see the potential for a great deal of cross-promotion for the benefit of all of clients going forward.”
