A fixed fee and payments by instalments are two groundbreaking deals being offered to start-up businesses by Darwin Gray Solicitors’ commercial law department.
The Cardiff-based commercial law specialists are aiming to help new businesses set up without any unforeseen legal costs lurking in the background and to make it easier for them to pay without overstretching their cash flow.
“Cash flow is a critical element of all businesses but in start-ups it can often be the difference between success and failure,” said commercial lawyer and partner Jason Smith.
“So we thought we could ease the pressure on fledgling businesses if we allowed them pay their legal fees by instalments over a year or so. And the fixed fee deal also means there aren’t going to be any unforeseen bills to spring a nasty surprise on new businesses.
“Of course, the amount of legal work required will vary from one start-up to another so we’re simply inviting anyone looking to start-up a business to come and discuss their needs with us and we’ll work out the costs and payment arrangements from that information.”
In addition to their new deals – thought to be unique in Wales if not the UK – Darwin Gray’s Company Commercial team is offering advice to people starting-up and running small and medium-sized businesses on a range of issues through a series of podcasts.
Called “Business Blueprint”, the podcasts are being published every month, each focusing on a key aspect of business, such as accountancy, HR, taxation and public relations. They take the form of interviews with acknowledged experts in the Welsh business community, recorded as audio files and available to listen to or download as an mp3 file from the Darwin Gray website www.darwingray.com/podcast.
Steve Thompson, a commercial lawyer and partner at Darwin Gray solicitors, said, “We have a busy team at Darwin Gray where we give our clients professional advice on the legal aspects of setting up and running a business. But clients also want advice on other things, such as banking and accountancy issues, and sometimes they are not sure where to turn to get sound, impartial advice.
“It made sense for us to work with other professionals who we rate highly in their fields to provide that advice, especially as many clients, who are either new to running a business or have just started out, have the same uncertainties, ask the same questions and ultimately want the same advice.
“The Business Blueprint podcasts will deal with many of these issues and either answer the questions directly or point people to where they can get a more detailed answer. We hope with our ‘fixed-fee’ and ‘payment by instalment’ deals it will make Darwin Gray the first choice for new businesses in South Wales.”
The first podcast is by Steve Thompson himself and was published on the Darwin Gray website on October 9. In it, he discusses the legal aspects of setting up a new business, covering the essential requirements that must be addressed as well as highlighting additional considerations that people should take into account.
Every month a new podcast will be published at www.darwingray.com/podcast to build up a repository of easily accessible key information for new businesses and start-ups. Visitors can also register on the same page to receive an email notification whenever a new podcast is published.
