ENTERPRISING young students in Wales are being given the chance to present their bright ideas to a panel of judges in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event taking place this autumn.
Careers Wales is encouraging Key Stage 4 pupils across Wales to sign up for this year’s Make Your Mark Challenge – part of National Enterprise Week, which runs from 12-18 November.
The Make Your Mark Challenge is a task that thousands of children in schools across Britain will take part in simultaneously. Details of the enterprise-themed challenge will be revealed to every registered group online at 9am on November 12, and a written response will have to be submitted online by 1pm on November 14.
Finalists from across Wales will be chosen to go forward at The Wales Grand Final in Cardiff on November 23, where they will pitch their business plan to a panel of judges. The winning team will then go to the National Final in London.
Last year’s Welsh winners were a team from Mary Immaculate High School in Cardiff, who impressed judges with their confident and enthusiastic response to the challenge ‘Make Life Fun, and Earn a Ton!’
The team of six presented their ideas for creating a leisure centre featuring alternative activities, such as circus acts, competitive egg and spoon racing and bossaball. They scored highly in all criteria and went on to the London finals.
John Oliver, Education Business Adviser with Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to get a taste of enterprise. From the initial creative brainstorm, to team-working, outlining a budget and presenting to a group, they will experience all the elements of working in business.”
Schools wishing to sign up to this year’s Make Your Mark Challenge should contact their local Careers Wales company or visit www.makeyourmarkchallenge.org.
