Unique Charity Coffee Shop Launches in City Centre

By admin

Issued on behalf of The Joshua Foundation

A CARDIFF-based charity is preparing to launch a unique coffee shop in the heart of the city – but it’s all hands to the deck to get it open in time for Christmas.

The Joshua Foundation, which provides holidays and experiences for children with cancer and their families, plans to open its own coffee shop at the entrance to Cardiff’s Castle Arcade – a prime spot opposite Cardiff Castle itself.

Called ‘Comfortably Numb’, The Joshua Foundation coffee shop will rival the city’s big coffee chains, with plans for two levels of seating, a lounging area and stage, outdoor seating in the arcade itself, and offering a top-quality range of coffees, cakes and snacks, as well as a fully licensed bar for events.

All profits from Comfortably Numb will go to The Joshua Foundation to help the charity continue to help terminally ill children and their families, both in South Wales and across the UK.

Although work on the shop is well under way, the charity is appealing to local businesses for help with the preparations for a pre-Christmas opening.

Sarah Cornelius, who set up The Joshua Foundation in 1998 following the death of her seven-year-old son Joshua to abdominal cancer, said: “We really need a joiner who can help us in these final stages of setting up the shop, or any trades people out there who feel they may be able to offer their time and skills for a good cause.

“It would be fantastic if we could open in time for Christmas, as Cardiff will be packed with Christmas shoppers looking for a rest and a cup of coffee – a great time for us to launch.

“We want the people of Cardiff to get involved and enjoy Comfortably Numb. I don’t think there is anything similar on offer in Wales at present where you can have a quality food and drink in a city-centre setting, but know at the same time your money is going to help other people, rather than to a faceless, corporate chain.”

“The Joshua Foundation has a positive can-do attitude, and we are hoping that people with the same enthusiasm can help us to get Comfortably Numb up and running by Christmas.
