Jackpot Win For Lucky Port Talbot Couple
Issued on behalf of Camelot
A couple who run a nursery for more than 60 children in Baglan, Port Talbot, are celebrating the arrival of their newest bundle of joy – a cheque for £250,000 – after scooping last Wednesday’s Thunderball jackpot (7 November 2007).
Retired Corus steel worker, Brian Williams (73), and his wife, Joyce (68), have run the Fingers N Thumbs crèche in Sandfields, Port Talbot, for the last 11 years. The couple, who have been married for 47 years and have three sons, were at home when they realised Brian’s lucky ticket matched all five main numbers and the Thunderball – but the extent of their win came as a surprise to the couple who originally thought that they had won £5,000.
Joyce said: “I was in the sitting room when Brian came in and told me that we had matched five numbers and the Thunderball, but because we change the order of the numbers every week, we didn’t know whether we had the Thunderball in the right place. Within minutes of checking the numbers, the true extent of our win became clear.
“We were on the phone to our sons immediately who were as speechless as we were – it’s only now all starting to sink in. We count ourselves very lucky, we have always worked hard for everything that we have wanted, so this win is a real blessing.”
She continued: “The first thing on our shopping list is a very nice Christmas with our family and a party for all of the children and staff at the crèche. After that a trip to New Zealand may be on the cards. Since I met Brian, he has always wanted to go there, so now may be the perfect chance.”
The couple, who have no plans to retire, bought the winning ticket at Morrison’s on Christchurch Road, Baglan. The winning Thunderball numbers on Wednesday 7 November were 8, 11, 19, 32, 33, and the Thunderball number was 4.
This Friday’s (16 November) EuroMillions jackpot is an estimated £10 million while Saturday’s (17 November) estimated Lotto jackpot is £xx million. Every Lotto slip now comes with its own Dream Number – it is up to players to mark ‘yes’ to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip.
