Hairdressers’ Festive Horsing-Around For Charity

While others will be rushing around on Christmas Eve grabbing the last few items on their loved ones Christmas lists, a team of hairdressers from Neath will be holding a horse race for charity with a twist.

Gadsby Hair Salon on Wind Street in Neath, are planning a shoe box horse race in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

The 18-strong workforce have been taking bets on their horses in preparation for the race on Christmas Eve which will see each shoebox jockey reign in their horses in front of a crowd of festive customers. Already the salon has raised £500 from customers’ donations, with the intention of raising £1000.

Three years ago 17 year-old Amy Hughes, a member of staff at the salon, lost her fight against a rare form of tumour. The salon has since held a series of fundraising events on behalf of the charity, including the auction of a signed Welsh 2005 Grand Slam shirt.

Liz Andrews, Deputy Charity Director for Fundraising at Cancer Research Wales said: “It is marvellous that Gadsby Hair Salon is holding this event on Christmas Eve. The salons support of Cancer Research Wales in past years has been extremely appreciated.

“Thanks to such generosity, Cancer Research Wales can continue to fund vital and pioneering research into cancer and its treatments in Wales.”
