Welsh Cancer Charity Opens Its Doors To Public

Issued on behalf of Cancer Research Wales

SOME of the most important research being carried out in Wales in the search for a cure for cancer will go on show to the public in January.

An open day is being staged by Cancer Research Wales at the research laboratories at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff on Saturday January 26.

The laboratories and the scientists who work in them are funded by Cancer Research Wales, which last year celebrated its 40th year of research in Wales.

A major source of the Cancer Research Wales funding is as a result of the £1 Million Appeal which was launched by the charity last year. The money raised from the appeal funds existing research into prostate and breast cancer, the development of new treatments for the cancers and also new research into drugs that prevent the spread of cancer cells across the body.

Visitors will be joined by dignitaries from across Wales for a guided tour of the research centre of excellence, with presentations on the work scientists are carrying out to fight breast and prostate cancer in particular.

Cancer Research Wales chairman, Dr Patrizia Hodge, said: “This is a unique opportunity to see the vital work being by the wonderful volunteers who are already helping us, and also to those we are hoping will support us in the future.”
