Hitting More High Notes For Cancer Research

By admin

Issued on behalf of Cancer Research Wales

Kylie and Amy Winehouse watch out-a team of hairdressing divas from Barry will be hitting the high notes at a Karaoke night in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

The team from Head Office on Newland Street in Barry has nominated their songbird manageress Jane Kelly to take centre stage at KR’s Cabaret Club on Saturday 16 February.

Jane, who is renowned within the salon for bursting into song is collecting sponsorship from colleagues and clients with the incentive that she will take to the stage on the night and belt out a few tunes by legends Bonnie Tyler and even Marilyn Monroe.

Several years ago the salon nominated Cancer Research Wales as its adopted charity and has since taken part in several fundraising events, raising money for the treatment and research of cancer in Wales.

Alongside Jane’s sponsorship, her colleagues are also raising money for the charity by selling tickets for the event at the salon. All proceeds from the ticket price and monies raised will go towards funding ground-breaking cancer research projects throughout Wales.

Jane said: “As a salon we have always supported the great work carried out by Cancer Research Wales. I am forever bursting in to song, so when we heard about the Karaoke night it seemed like a perfect way to raise money for the charity.

“More and more people’s lives are being affected by cancer, so if we can do our bit to help them raise money, hitting a few bad notes on stage is a very small price to pay.”

Cancer Research Wales, Assistant Fundraiser and organiser of the event, Sally Anthony said: “This thrilling event, will give the public the chance to belt out the tunes like Whitney Houston or croon like Frank Sinatra. With a host of top prizes up for grabs, karaoke entrants can even dress the part if they wish to.”

“We’ve had a lot of interest in this event which shows just how strongly the public feel about cancer research. Thanks to people like the team at Head Office, the event should be a great success and raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research Wales’ work into cancer and its treatments.”

Liz Andrews, Deputy Charity Director for Fundraising at Cancer Research Wales said: “Thanks to the commitment of all our fundraisers, Cancer Research Wales can continue to provide funding for vital and pioneering research into cancer and its treatments in Wales.

All entrants to the Cancer Research Wales Karaoke competition are welcomed on or before the night, yet early entry is advised to avoid disappointment. Tickets are priced at £12.00 each (including an evening meal) and are available direct from KR’s Cabaret Club in Barry Island, Head Office on Newland Street in Barry or by calling Cancer Research Wales on 02920 316976.
