Run With Mum On Mother’s Day

By admin

Issued on behalf of British Military Fitness

MUMS across South Wales are being urged to put their feet up a little later in the day on Mothering Sunday next month – after joining in the special St David’s Day Weekend run for cancer research.

The third annual British Military Fitness St David’s Day Run is being staged in Cardiff on Sunday, March 2, and families across the region are being urged to take part and raise money for the Cancer Research Wales charity.

This year’s 5k run – open to runners of all ages and abilities – not only coincides with Mothers’ Day but is a part of the Cardiff Council St David’s Day celebrations taking place in the capital throughout the weekend.

A one-kilometre St David’s Day Fun-Run is also being organised for children alongside the 5k run. Taking in the sights of Bute Park, both races will start and finish at Blackweir changing rooms, situated at the North Road entrance to Bute Park near the ambulance station. The 5k run starts at 10am with the one-kilometre family run starting 45 minutes later.

More than 1,000 adults and children have taken part in the run in the last two years, raising over £6,000 for the nominated charity of the year.

This year all the money raised from the event will go to Cardiff-based Cancer Research Wales. Based in the grounds of Velindre Hospital in Whitchurch, the charity provides funding for dedicated research into cancer in Wales, including new developments into treatments for prostate and breast cancer as well as new radiotherapy techniques.

Cancer Research Wales relies heavily on donations and fundraising events and ensures that all of the money raised in Wales stays in Wales where it is used to fund vital research.

Huw Lewis, managing director of British Military Fitness, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people across South Wales to take part in a run that actively supports such a great charity.

“It is becoming increasingly important that families take part in a healthy lifestyle, and following last year’s success of adding the one-kilometre run for children we hope more and more families will take part this year and help to raise funds for a very deserving charity.

“It’s a great morning out for all types of runners from real beginners to seasoned club runners and provides a great opportunity to help a very worthwhile cause.”

Anyone aged 13 and over on the day of the run can take part. Each runner will receive a T-shirt and be presented with a medal when they cross the finishing line.

Entry is £8 for runners affiliated with British Military Fitness, £9 for non club members and £3 for children taking part in the 1K run. Fun runners can also enter and register on the day at a cost of £10.
