Precedent builds new website for children’s hospice

By admin

A new website combining a real flavour of life at a Welsh children’s hospice, with social media and digital marketing has been designed and built by Precedent Communications in its Cardiff office.

Tŷ Hafan aims to improve the quality of life of children who are not going to live into adulthood, and their families, by providing a high standard of respite and palliative care at the hospice at Sully, on the banks of the Bristol Channel in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Precedent worked with the team at Tŷ Hafan to create simple and intuitive information architecture to guide users through all aspects of the hospice. With a fresh, dynamic design, the new website [www.tyhafan.org] aims to embody the atmosphere and experience of visitors to the hospice.

The agency also used its expertise in social media and digital marketing to incorporate elements in the new website and created a presence on other sites including YouTube and Flickr, adding value to the user experience and gaining wider exposure.

The new site has the dual aims of presenting a very positive and uplifting view of life at the hospice while raising the funds needed to run it, currently more than £2.5 million a year.

There are simple clear directions for people wanting to make donations – both monetary and goods for sale in Tŷ Hafan shops – as well as for those wanting to support the charity by making wills and giving gift aid or taking part in online shopping and auctions for the charity.

A whole section is dedicated to the Tŷ Hafan lottery enabling volunteers and players to get involved and another section is dedicated to the vital area of corporate support.

Jenni Williams, director of Precedent’s Cardiff office, said: “The challenge was to capture in the website all the wonderful things Tŷ Hafan do with children and the fun, family atmosphere in the hospice, while making visitors to the site fully aware of how important it is that they raise the funds to achieve all this.

“The online message plays a huge part in charity fundraising these days. We think we’ve got it right with Tŷ Hafan and hope other charities can see the benefits of what they are doing through their new website.”

Alex Bruce, IT Manager at Tŷ Hafan, said: “We have been delighted to work with the Precedent team who have taken the time to become very familiar with the charity and listen to our needs. I believe they have come up with a website which communicates exactly what Tŷ Hafan does and the difference it makes to our children and their families.”
