Colleagues get teeth into charity walk

By admin

Two dental nurses from South Wales will be joining hundreds of walkers next week (SUNDAY SEPT 7) for one of the most colourful charity events in the country.

Julia Beere and Gaynor Rogers are preparing to take part in the Cancer Research Wales Pink-a-Blue Walk, which raises vital funds for research into breast and prostate cancer in Wales.

Julia,50, who lives in Thornhill, Cardiff, said: “Gaynor and I have talked about doing something for Cancer Research Wales for a while, and the Cardiff Pink-a-Blue Walk seemed an ideal opportunity. We are really looking forward to the day itself, there’s always such a great atmosphere at fundraisers like this.”

Senior Nurse Julia, and special care nurse Gaynor,55, from Machen, who both work in the dental department at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, have been training around Heath Park for the four mile walk which takes place on Sunday September 7th.

The event starts outside the Norwegian Church, Cardiff and finishes at the Cardiff Bay Barrage. The hundreds of walkers will wear either blue, to show support for prostate cancer, or pink, for breast cancer, making it one of the most colourful charity events staged in South Wales.

Breast and prostate cancer are two of the most common cancers affecting men and women in Wales. Cancer Research Wales is currently funding cutting edge research into these two cancers in its laboratories at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff and this year’s Pink-a-Blue Walk will raise funds to help continue and develop this research.

Liz Andrews, Deputy Charity Director for Fundraising at Cancer Research Wales said “Thanks to supporters like Julia and Gaynor, the Cancer Research Wales Pink-a-Blue Walk is set to be a fantastic day. All the money raised at the walk could ultimately help to save hundreds of lives.”
