Family hit high notes at London Gospel visit

By admin

A MUSICAL family from Derbyshire was treated to an access-all-areas visit to a top international Gospel Choir by the children’s charity The Joshua Foundation.

Music-loving Alex Cooper, 16, from Kilburn, was diagnosed with cancer several years ago but that has not stopped him from doing what he loves. As a treat from The Joshua Foundation – a charity which provides holidays and days away for children with cancer and their families – Alex, who has sung in a local choir himself, was treated to an all expenses paid trip to London to have his own private singing lesson with the world renowned London Community Gospel Choir.

Together with his mum Lorraine, Alex was whisked to London where he met the celebrities-choice choir, who even sang at Wayne Rooney and Colleen Mcloughlin’s star-studded wedding.

Throughout the day Alex and his mum were given one-to-one singing lessons from Choir Principal Reverend Basil Meade and a meal at TGI Friday’s, after which The Joshua Foundation presented him with music vouchers so that he could stock up on his favourite CDs.

Set up by Sarah Cornelius, from South Wales, when she lost her seven-year-old son Joshua to cancer in 1998, The Joshua Foundation now provides holidays and experiences for children with terminal cancer and their families across the UK.

Ben Price, Midlands coordinator for The Joshua Foundation said: “The Joshua Foundation were extremely happy to be able to offer Alex and his mum a really fun day out doing what he really loves.

“Everyone who was involved had a great day and hopefully, through the support and generosity of the public The Joshua Foundation can continue to offer the same fun-packed days to many more children and their families that have been diagnosed with cancer.”
