Strong business head on young shoulders

Charlotte Burles is a real believer that there’s only one way to learn – and that’s to dive straight in at the deep end.
At the age of just 27, Charlotte is already the managing director of Parkmans, the successful lettings and property management company in Abercarn.
Fresh from graduating with a Masters in Estate Management, Charlotte ventured into the unknown when she took over the household name in 2006.
In the two years since she has managed the 47-year-old company, the now re-branded Parkmans has gone from strength to strength, increasing its staff numbers and property portfolio – culminating in the launch of the company’s newest venture, Parkmans Commercial later this year.
Charlotte, who lives in Blackwood, said: “I feel a superb sense of achievement when I look back over how Parkmans has grown in recent years.
“Walking in to a business that was already extremely well-established, and within an area of business that was unfamiliar, meant that I had to learn fast and I’m so glad that I did. It has been a tremendous learning curve and the team has been instrumental in the success that we are now witnessing.
“Parkmans is now in a position where it can build on its success and move into new aspects of the industry.”
As a result of both the Parkmans team and her own hard work, Charlotte has been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year at this year’s Caerphilly Business Forum Awards.
Already in its seventh year, the Caerphilly Business Forum Awards seek to honour and applaud companies from all sectors and sizes from across the County Borough of Caerphilly for their achievements over the previous 12 months.
The closing date to enter this year’s awards is Friday September 26, with the winners announced at a ceremony at the Bryn Meadows Hotel on November 14.
