Unique charity shop auction to fight cancer

By admin

A unique charity shop auction is set to be held in Cardiff this week – with everything from a high-powered telescope to valuable jewellery and antiques going under the hammer.

The special auction will be held at the Cancer Research Wales shop, on Penlline Road, Whitchurch on Wednesday (August 20), after staff noticed a high number of unusual and valuable items had been donated to the shop in recent months.

Liz Andrews, Deputy Charity Fundraising Director said: “We have all sorts of things donated to the charity for sale in the shop, but we realised many of them were far too valuable to go on general sale.

“We had the idea for an in-shop auction, where people could bid for some of these unique items. The telescope we have as one of the lots is incredible – powerful enough to see the rings on Saturn. There is also some amazing jewellery and china up for grabs as well as cameras and games.”

Kevin Hobbs, of Pontypridd Auctions, will be acting as auctioneer at the event, which will open at 5.30pm for browsing, followed by the auction itself at 7pm.

All the money raised at the auction will go to Cancer Research Wales to help them continue to fund vital and pioneering research into cancer and its treatments.
