Superwoman returns, bigger and better than ever

By admin

Superwoman is back. The charity networking evening for businesswomen in South Wales returns for the fourth year in succession on October 16th.

Once again, the event combines a seminar with key speakers followed by a networking opportunity over drinks but, having sold out for the last three years, it will be held in a bigger venue this time – the Copthorne Hotel in Cardiff – with room for 150 women.

Speakers at Superwoman IV include Controller of BBC Wales Menna Richards, women’s publishing specialist Caroline Oakley, marketing consultant Gwenda Williams and BBC Wales’ political editor Betsan Powys.

The event starts at 5.30pm with coffee and registration sponsored by Odgers Ray & Berndtson, the leading UK executive recruitment business.

The first speaker, Menna Richards, will start at around 6.05pm, talking about women and broadcasting. She’ll be followed by Caroline Oakley talking about publishing by women for women in Wales, with a focus on publishers Honno. Consultant Gwenda Williams will follow, talking about portfolio careers and how they might be the key to flexibility, choice and even happiness. Betsan Powys will round off the speakers, discussing her particular approach to juggling politics and motherhood.

A question and answer panel session will follow the speakers, on the theme of what makes a “good company to work for”. It will be chaired and sponsored by the Cardiff branch of Swedish bank Handelsbanken which achieved 10th place in the 2008 Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For Awards.

The evening will end with a drinks reception and a chance for networking, closing at around 8.30pm.

Organiser Bethan Darwin said: “This is the fourth year we’ve run the Superwoman seminar and so far we’ve raised around £8,000. But since this year it’s bigger than ever we’re hoping to raise £5,000 – more than we did in the first two years combined.

“We’ve also expanded Superwoman to include a fundraising lunch in the summer, so that combination of business women networking and raising money for charities at the same time has certainly proven to be very popular.”

The cost of the evening is £35 per person and, as usual for Superwoman, every penny of that will go directly to the two adopted charities. This year, these are Valleys Kids (www.valleyskids.org), a charity working with disadvantaged children and families in the South Wales valleys, and The Trust for Sick Children in Wales, whose main purpose is to build accommodation where parents with sick children can stay.

The donation of the full ticket price has once again been made possible by those involved with the Superwoman offering their services for free. These include the Copthorne Hotel which is donating the room for the event, Elevator who designed a marketing flyer and Hartley Wilprint who printed it – all for free.

All delegates will be entered into a free draw and each will be given a goody bag at the end of the evening, with donations from: Celtic Manor Hotel; Total Training/Moving Wallpaper; ILEX; Kamigata; Guy Christian Salon; Job Trac Cymru; Kilsby & Williams; Philip Gill; Holm House; Central Pharmacy/Perfumery & Clarins Gold Salon; Clear Objective; Enterprise Rent-a-Car; Grabit; Darwin Gray; RICS; Karen Dell’Armi Jewellery; Aquaclean; Pro-copy; Allied Bakeries; Serious Foods; Clay Shaw Thomas; Browns Office Supplies, The Independent General Practice and Marie Claire.

To attend, please email Caroline Hazell at chazell@darwingray.com for a booking form. As demand will be high, places cannot be confirmed until payment is received.
