AA Serves Up Rosette Award To Cardiff Marriott Restaurant
By Effective Communication
A Prestigious AA Rosette has been awarded to the new Cardiff Marriott Hotel restaurant – just weeks after it reopened following a major refit.
The rosette is the first award of its kind received by the Marriott – one of the highest-graded four-star hotels in the Welsh capital – and was made following an anonymous visit from AA judges.
The landmark hotel’s new Brasserie Centrale restaurant – praised by the AA inspectors for its “very good cooking” – was officially opened in the run-up to Christmas after undergoing a £400,000 refurbishment.
Run by executive chef Tino Pardon, it seats 130 in four separate, but linked, dining areas. Its French-themed menu also includes local influences and has already served up record takings for a business that by late summer will find itself at the heart of Cardiff’s new multi-million pound St David’s 2 shopping development.
Cardiff Marriott general manager Derek Harvey said the awarding of the AA Rosette was “testament to the major investment being made in the hotel – and the hard work and talent of its staff.”
He said: “The investment we have received has not just been excellent news for this hotel, but for Cardiff as a whole. It is further evidence of how the capital of Wales is seen as a rapidly-expanding centre of tourism and commercial and retail activity.
“We are already reaping the rewards of the investment, with Christmas trading figures in the restaurant and new-look bar at record levels. The awarding of the AA Rosette is the icing on the cake for us.
“We also now find ourselves in the enviable position of being at the very heart of what will become one of the most exciting retail and entertainment hubs of the UK, with the impending opening of the St David’s 2 shopping centre and the redevelopment of Mill Lane.”
The final phase of the £2.5m Cardiff Marriott refit is currently underway, with new floors being laid in the reception area. That will complete a two-year programme of improvements at the hotel which has also seen major investments in a new bar, the fitness and leisure club and banqueting and meeting room facilities.
