Rahman scores dream job with Welsh Football Trust
By Effective Communication
Football-mad Mizan Rahman has been appointed football inclusion officer for the Welsh Football Trust – and he could hardly have landed a more perfect job.
Based at the Trust’s office in Nantgarw, Rahman’s new role is to raise the numbers of people playing football among the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.
By helping existing clubs, creating new community clubs, and giving opportunities to BME children to play mainstream football, Rahman’s target is to integrate the communities together – through football.
Originally from Birmingham from a Bangladeshi origin, Rahman, 27, moved to Llanellii when he was three years old and has lived there ever since. Getting involved with sports from an early age, he ended up playing football at a competitive level for Llanelli AFC youth team, Carmarthenshire District and Troestre AFC, and working as a personal trainer for various gyms throughout the region.
However, work commitments – Rahman also worked as an assistant manager for a restaurant in Swansea at the same time – meant he couldn’t participate in football as much as he’d have liked.
Rahman said: “I have a passion for football and have always wanted to pursue a career within the sport. Landing this job was a dream come true.
“At the moment I’m introducing myself to different communities and making myself familiar with various local organisations. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and making a difference.”
Neil Ward, chief executive of the Welsh Football Trust which is charged by the Football Association of Wales with developing grassroots football in Wales, said: “We are thrilled to have Rahman on board.
“His enthusiasm really shines through and I have great faith in his ability to fulfill his commitments to the community. Ethnic minorities are severely under-represented in the boardrooms and governance arrangements of football clubs and national football organisations.
Black Players predominate at every level of the game, but there are hardly any Asian or Chinese players at any level or in any age group.”
