Cycle Ride for Cancer Research Wales
By Effective Communication
Five Cardiff University students are going the extra mile for a charity committed to funding cancer research in Wales.
Huw Morgan Jones, 22, Dafydd Sion Loughran, 19, Huw Waters, 22, Ifan Gwilym, 22, and Ifan Teifi Rees, 22, are cycling 214 miles over four days next week from North Wales to South Wales.
Starting in Porthllechog on Thursday June 4, they will cycle 95 miles to Aberystwyth, followed by 36 miles to Lampeter on day two. Day three will see the boys taking a well- earned rest day, before cycling the remaining 82 miles to the finish line in Rhoose near Barry.
Fourth year medical student Huw Morgan Jones said: “We know cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Wales, and affects so many people. We believe Cancer Research Wales is a great cause and can make a real difference for people suffering with the illness.”
The fit fundraisers are regulars at the gym and admit they are in peak physical condition; especially as second year medical student Dafydd took part in the gruelling Edinburgh Marathon just days ago (Sunday 31st May).
Liz Andrews, Cancer Research Wales deputy fundraising director said: “Cycling the distance between North and South Wales is no mean feat and we wish them all the best.
“Thanks to fundraisers like Huw and his friends, Cancer Research Wales can continue to provide vital and pioneering research into cancer and its treatments here in Wales.”
Huw said: “We’re hoping to raise £1,500, and if there’s anyone willing to give a free massage when we’re finished that would be very much appreciated!”
