Grŵp Gwalia applauded for pioneering action

By Effective Communication

Grŵp Gwalia is the first public sector organisation to implement Welsh Assembly Government procurement, xchangewales initiative – saving an estimated £200million in public expenditure over five years.

Social housing provider Grŵp Gwalia, which has its headquarters in Swansea, has successfully adopted every aspect of the WAG sponsored electronic procurement solution xchangewales.

WAG, aims to have all public sector companies completing procurement processes on a convenient centralised system, says that Grŵp Gwalia’s implementation has helped to create the processes by which other companies will be guided.

Paul Skellon, xchangewales Programme Director said: “Grŵp Gwalia has been a great advocate of the programme from the start. Its commitment and regular feedback has been invaluable to me and the xchangewales team in paving the way for further Public Sector organisations to start implementing eProcurement ahead of the game.”

Grŵp Gwalia’s pioneering steps will now mean that each transaction made will be captured electronically by a central hub, ensuring greater efficiency and accuracy than before.

The changes will result in a saving of around £26 for Grŵp Gwalia on every transaction that is made through the xchangewales system, while ensuring that Grŵp Gwalia meets procurement targets and provides a better service across the organisation.

Speaking at the launch of Grŵp Gwalia’s eProcurement system, Andrew Davies, Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery in the Welsh Assembly Government said: “It’s good to meet such a forward thinking organisation, we realise that implementing any form of change into a business can be challenging.

“The management and staff of Grŵp Gwalia are an excellent example of how an organisation can successfully take advantage of Welsh Assembly Government sponsored initiatives such as xchangewales.”

Tracey Healey, Director of Procurement & Business Management for Grŵp Gwalia said: “Every organisation adopting eProcurement should undertake some form of business process change on both their internal and external processes. This can help to achieve major process efficiencies and savings in the purchase to pay process.

“Even taking a couple of steps out of the P2P process can yield significant savings in terms of time and cost. Grŵp Gwalia is now looking forward to realising the potential cumulative financial benefits that the programme can deliver. Internal procurement will now be seen as strategic rather than a back office function.”
