Llanmoor ensures the flags are flying high at local school

By Effective Communication

Family-run housebuilder, Llanmoor Homes, has stepped in to ensure that the flags at Dolau Primary in Llanharan are flying high, with a donation of three flagpoles.

The new poles now stand proudly outside the school, which is just a short distance from the company’s popular Cefn Cadno development.

One of the poles is being used to fly the recently awarded Green Flag, which recognises the school’s commitment to promoting environmental issues, actively encouraging pupils to think about sustainability and ways in which their school can be run to the benefit of the environment.

This is the second time that Dolau Primary has been awarded full Green Flag status which is achieved after a detailed assessment of the school.

Part of the Eco-Schools scheme, schools have to go through several stages, which include forming an eco-committee, undertaking an environmental review and formulating an action plan. The Eco-Committee is made up of pupils, teachers and also non-teaching staff.

The school then has to commit to undertaking improvements in, among other things, litter, use of energy and water, waste management and the promotion of healthy living.

Alongside the highly prized Green Flag, flies Dolau Primary’s own school flag and also, the Welsh national flag.

Speaking about Llanmoor’s donation, headteacher, Gareth Evans said:

“Llanmoor Homes is a very well-known company in the local area and has always been extremely supportive of the school.

“We’re very proud of the Green Flag and also both our school and Welsh identity so it is great to see all three on display.  This latest donation is much appreciated and on behalf of the school, I’d just like to thank Llanmoor for their continued support.”

Llanmoor Homes director, Tim Grey, added:

“We’re always happy to help with local projects if we can, particularly if they involve schools close to our developments.

“Dolau Primary has worked hard to achieve its eco-status and as we ourselves are

committed to minimising any adverse impact our work could have on the environment, we’re particularly pleased to be able to help them fly the Green Flag with pride.”
