Principality sows the seeds of saving in Wales

By Effective Communication

People wanting to save their way out of the recession would be wise to pay a visit to the National Eisteddfod in Bala next week, and take a tip or two from the Principality Money Tree.

From 1 August to 8 August, Principality – Wales’ biggest building society – will erect an eight foot tall money tree on its stand to transport visitors back to the traditional days of saving, by sowing the seeds of cutting costs – and not cutting back.

Visitors to the National Eisteddfod will be encouraged to provide the Principality money tree with money saving tips, in the shape of leaves hanging from its branches, for all to see and share. The tree is already blooming with ideas after its spell at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells and it will continue to tour the country this summer in an effort to collect tips from all corners of Wales.

The money saving tips could be anything from taking a packed lunch to work and save on buying ready-made sandwiches, to saving your pennies in a jar in preparation for your holidays.

Principality Chief Operating Officer Graeme Yorston said: “Most of us would agree that it would be great if money grew on trees, but the reality is that we need to make our money work much harder. The idea of Principality’s Money Tree is for the people of Wales to share their money-saving tips so we all end up with more cash to save. It is increasingly important for people to save, and saving has once again become not only sensible but popular, too.

“In the past, people would have kept their money saving tips to themselves, for fear of being frowned upon. But these days it is fashionable to share ideas – and sometimes the craziest ideas turn out to be the biggest money savers.

“As a nation we need to return to traditional savings methods and become thrifty once again –  the Money Tree will provide modern ideas for doing so. We hope that by the end of the National Eisteddfod the Principality Money Tree will be blooming with money savings ideas and tips, to help us all grow our savings this summer.”

Visitors to the Principality stand at the National Eisteddfod, which starts on Saturday, August 1, will be invited to exchange their money-saving tips for a free gift and the chance to win up to £50.

From the National Eisteddfod, the Money Tree will make its way to Principality branch in Wrexham for two weeks before embarking on its journey to Principality’s Carmarthen branch.

Recently named the UK’s most consistent savings provider, Principality provide a range of savings accounts from e-savings, ISA’s and bonds to savings accounts designed for a variety of needs.
