Gareth Edwards supports cancer campaign

By Effective Communication

Welsh rugby legend, Gareth Edwards, has pledged his support for a local cancer charity’s credit crunch fundraising campaign.

Cancer Research Wales, the indigenous Welsh cancer charity with headquarters at Velindre Hospital Cardiff, has launched its ‘Small Change, Big Difference’ campaign to help raise funds for vital research projects in Wales.

The charity will be distributing hundreds of specially designed small change boxes to offices, schools and homes across Wales, and asking people to fill them with any spare change, which will then be donated back to the charity.

Cancer Research Wales funds groundbreaking research projects across Wales, including a current project looking at ways of stopping tumours in breast and prostate cancer spreading to other parts of the body.

Liz Andrews, deputy director for fundraising at Cancer Research Wales said: “Often, it’s the smallest and simplest ideas that make the biggest difference to fundraising. We rely on the people of Wales to help fund these vital research projects, and this year we have already been able to award a further £1million to cancer research in Wales, thanks to the generosity and commitment of our supporters.

“We understand that the recession means that many people may be struggling, and that it isn’t always an option for our supporters to hold a big fundraising event.

“The Small Change Big Difference campaign means everyone can play a part in the fight against cancer. For example, if everyone in Cardiff gave just £3 of small change over a few months, £1million would be raised!”

Lending his support to the campaign, Wales and British Lions Legend Gareth Edwards said: “I’m delighted to be supporting the Cancer Research Wales Small Change, Big Difference campaign. Cancer Research Wales is a fantastic cause, as all the money stays here in Wales to ensure we have access to world-class research projects. With many people struggling during a recession, this campaign offers a way of helping a local charity, without having to make a big financial commitment.”
