Autumnal Foodie Extravaganza Set to Hit Cowbridge
By Effective Communication
Hundreds of food lovers are set to descend on the Vale of Glamorgan this weekend, for this year’s Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival. The culinary extravaganza returns for its sixth year this weekend, and is set to bring its usual tasty mix of vibrant carnival atmosphere and delicious produce to the town.
Fast becoming one of the best food festivals in the UK, this year’s festival promises a weekend packed with entertainment and indulgence.
Visitors will be able to explore a host of more than 75 exhibitors in the main food hall – from pies to pates, chutneys to chillis and chives, this is the place to sample and buy some of the finest local produce.
Exhibitors range from cider brewers and organic farmers, to Mexican and Thai food stalls. And for those with a sweet tooth, there are ice-cream producers and chocolatiers exhibiting too.
Aside from the stalls groaning with food, those who like a tipple to wash it all down with won’t be disappointed. The popular Champagne tent brings some added sparkle to the festival, with fizz, fine live music and delicious platters served by staff from stylish Cowbridge bar and tapas venue, Bar 44, and is open all weekend.
Frances Donovan will present demonstrations by a variety of well-known chefs throughout the weekend, including a demo by acclaimed food blogger, Simon Majumdar.
The half Welsh, half Bengali food writer, is known for his food blog, Dos Hermanos, and was recently voted as one of the 1000 most influential people in London by The Evening Standard.
Simon will be demonstrating one of his mother’s secret recipes, and signing copies of his book, ‘Eat My Globe’, a witty account of his search for the best food in the world.
The festival also features a dedicated Welsh Cheese and Wine Marquee, where festival-goers can sample delicious produce from across Wales.
Local produce is a major part of the festival’s ethos, with many of the exhibitors hailing from the Vale of Glamorgan, and regulars at the Vale of Glamorgan Farmers Market.
The festival supports farmers, growers and producers from the local area who come to the festival to exhibit their produce in person, and use traditional, organic methods to help maintain the environment.
Ballantynes’ Drinks Talks are also a popular part of the weekend’s programme. Held upstairs in the Town Hall the talks also include tasting sessions, and cover a range of topics from wine to whiskey.
Young foodies have not been forgotten at the festival either. There will be plenty of interactive food demonstrations geared towards budding culinary connoisseurs, as well as face painting, street entertainment and balloon artists circulating the town to keep everyone entertained.
Polly Wilson, event manager for the Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival said: “The festival’s profile just keeps on growing, and that’s reflected in the quality of our exhibitors and demonstrators. There really is something for everyone at this year’s festival, and it’s a great chance to stock up on some delicious produce, ready for Christmas.”
