Club receives help from Welsh football initiative
By Effective Communication
Haverfordwest County FC has become one of the first clubs in Wales to benefit from a joint venture between the Welsh Football Trust and Football Association of Wales (FAW) to improve grounds in Wales.
The Welsh Premier League club has completed works on a new 500 seater stand at Bridge Meadows after obtaining a grant worth £74,394 from the Welsh Grounds Improvements scheme.
Established just over a year ago, Welsh Grounds Improvements was set up to distribute FAW grant aid to clubs to help improve the standard of stadia across Wales.
The grant received by Haverfordwest County has assisted the club to erect an additional 500 seater pitch side stand, which is vital to take the club to the 1,000 seating capacity required to host UEFA qualifying matches.
It is also hoped that the new addition will improve the facilities at Haverfordwest County ahead of the restructuring of the Welsh Premier League to 12 clubs at the end of the season, while continuing to raise the standards at the thriving community club.
Officials from Welsh Grounds Improvements visited the club to give their approval to the new spectator stand and to present a cheque to the club for the work carried out.
Speaking of the assistance the club has received from Welsh Grounds Improvements, Secretary Barry Vaughan said: “We are continually looking to upgrade and improve the facilities, to ensure that all of our teams and the community have the best possible grounds to play on.
“Thanks to the Welsh Grounds Improvements grant, we have been able to complete a substantial piece of work, which not only improves the club for our players and the immediate community but it also ensures that we can continue to bring revenue into the club and grow as we can now compete to host UEFA qualifying matches also.
Peter Lee, Chairman of the Welsh Grounds Improvements Board said: “It is our aim to continue to help clubs like Haverfordwest County FC to improve the facilities they offer to the community.
“With the introduction of this scheme, we hope to help many more clubs improve their future prospects and at the same time close the gap between the standards of facilities in place at football clubs across Wales.”
