Scotland prove Far-uz too good for Wales

The Welsh Under 16 Development Squad took on Scotland in their second match of this year’s Sky Sports Victory Shield but unfortunately Scotland’s star player, Islam Faruz was too much for them.
The match at Belle Vue in Rhyl was won by the away team 1-0 with Faruz scoring the only goal of the match nine minutes in to the game.
Lone striker Leon Newell often found himself isolated, and Wales’ only first half shot on target came after 30 minutes following an excellent cross by right-back Adam Henley, which found Jordan Holt and his shot should have been turned in by Will Roberts.
Wales made a double substitution at half time bringing on Declan John and Callum Holden for Lewis Blackmore and Will Roberts, but the changes had little effect in a disappointing performance by the home side.
Two further substitutions were made after 64 minutes with James Loveridge and Rhys James replacing Theo Wharton and Jack Simmons and despite a header from Will James and shots from Declan John and Adam Henley, Wales rarely troubled Wightman in the Scottish goal.
Manager and Welsh Football Trust Technical Director Osian Roberts said: “Despite our efforts I felt Scotland held the upper hand in the first half and deserved their lead at the interval.
“Following our discussion at half time I thought the boys improved in the second half and perhaps deserved something to show for it. However we didn’t pass the ball as we know we can and this is something we’ll have to work on before we play Northern Ireland.”
Wales’ match against Northern Ireland takes place on Thursday November 19 at 7:40 in Port Talbot.
