Wales ‘Scot’ beaten again

By Effective Communication

Wales U16 Girls Development Squad failed to beat Scotland in their second match against the same opposition in a week.

Despite a new-look Welsh starting line-up and the team enjoying the majority of possession, the match – at Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow – ended in a 2-0 win for the home team.

Sadie Mansell and Hannah Lewis were at the heart of every move while centre backs Cherie Bessant and Danielle Oats dealt extremely well with the direct play that Scotland adopted.

Hannah Kerakopolis and Chloe O’Conner managed to create four good chances but failed to convert them into goals, and although goalkeeper Alice Evans made two excellent saves she was unable to stop the Scottish number 9 scoring on the stroke of half time.

The second goal came just five minutes into the second half when the ball bounced over Evans. But despite the setbacks, the team showed character and attitude and dominated the rest of the half. The introduction of Lauren Hancock, Ellie Curson and Gwennan Davies gave the Welsh girls an added lift and while they continued to press the opposition they were unable to convert any of their chances.

Coach Carl Darlington said: “The girls showed an outstanding display of football in Glasgow and can take pride in the performance. It’s clear to see how they have responded to the coaching sessions and information given to them over the past 12 months, which will make a huge difference to their long-term development.”
