Principality raises over £45,000 for children’s hospices
Principality Building Society has announced that it has raised more than £45,000 for its joint charities of the year; Ty Gobaith and Ty Hafan children’s hospices.
Principality, which celebrates its 150th birthday this year, has been fundraising for the past 12 months with individual branches and head office completing a variety of activities.
Highlights include a 177 mile charity bike ride from North Wales to South Wales which raised £1,500, followed by a hike up Snowdon which raised £2,500. Members of the IT department completed a canoeing challenge down the River Wye to Symonds Yat in July raising a further £2,045.
Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice is based in Sully, near Cardiff while Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospice is in Conwy, North Wales. Both provide specialist palliative care services for children with life limiting conditions.
Sian Williams, Principality Branch Manager in Canton said: “We have had great fun raising money for such a good cause and I take my hat off to the men for their cycle ride.
“Principality staff are passionate and dedicated fundraisers, which has clearly been demonstrated during the past 12 months. To raise £45,000 for our two charities in the current climate especially, is amazing.”
Sarah Kearsley-Wooller from Ty Gobaith said: “We’re delighted with the huge support that Principality Building Society has shown Ty Gobaith this year.
“The current financial climate is taking fundraising to a challenging level and we continue to be grateful to our corporate partners who provide the essential support necessary for Ty Gobaith – the only children’s hospice in North Wales – to continue caring for terminally-ill children and their families, facing the most difficult diagnosis. With their generosity we can continue to make the most of short and precious lives.”
Frank Ady, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Tŷ Hafan added: “The children and families who use Tŷ Hafan would like to say a very big thank you to Principality for raising this amazing amount of money. The funds will make the world of difference to their lives. The effort of the staff over the past twelve months has been nothing short of astonishing, and the amount of money raised by them, in a difficult climate, is a testament to their passion and commitment to help charities like Tŷ Hafan.”
Principality will announce its chosen charity of the year for 2010 in February.
