Your 2010 Marketing Plan
By Tracy Marsh
Some of you may be feeling rather smug because your marketing plan for 2010 is already kicking into action. Others may be thinking; “What marketing plan?”
If you fit into the latter category, please read on …
A marketing plan is vitally important for any business as it sits alongside the business plan and gives a clear indication of how your marketing activities are going to help to achieve your business objectives.
Compiling a marketing plan is also a very useful process as it provides the opportunity to sit down and review your business objectives, review your target audience, set your targets and decide what you need to do to achieve the required results from your marketing activities.
And you need to make sure you get a good return on your investment by engaging in activities that produce results.
Some activities, of course, will not be directly measureable, but they may still raise awareness of your company, its products or services, and your profile in the marketplace.
This is all about enhancing your reputation and brand recognition, elements that can give you an edge over your competitors.
If you are looking for a direct response then make sure that your marketing activity has that response mechanism.
If you haven’t completed your plan don’t panic as a marketing plan can be introduced at any time. A good starting point would be to write the following headings on your month-by-month spreadsheet:
- Public Relations
- Direct Mail
- Social Media
- Sponsorship
- Website
- Advertising
- Events
- Promotions
- Hospitality
- Community/Charity
Once you’ve done that, consider your target audience and fill in the activities you plan to do under each heading.
