Club closer to achieving dream
Denbigh Town is reaping the benefits of being part of a new joint venture between the Welsh Football Trust and Football Association of Wales (FAW) to improve grounds in Wales.
The Cymru Alliance League club was recently awarded £11,600 from the Welsh Grounds Improvements Scheme which they have used to lay tarmac pathways to three sides of the pitch. The upgrades will play a substantial role in helping the club achieve their ambitions of creating a League of Wales standard ground within the next few years.
Denbigh Town Chairman Clwyd Williams said: “The work has undoubtedly enhanced the appearance of our ground.
“Previously the sides of the playing area looked very untidy and uneven. Since the work has been carried out we have had lots of comments from supporters and officials from other clubs telling us how good our ground now looks.
“Our goal of reaching League of Wales standard is going to cost us a lot of money, so the Welsh Grounds Improvements funding has helped us immensely.”
Established in 2008, Welsh Grounds Improvements was set up to distribute Football Association of Wales grant aid to clubs to help improve the standard of stadia across Wales.
Ioan Jones from Welsh Grounds Improvements visited the club (Saturday 27th February) to give their approval to the new facilities and to present a plaque to the club for the work carried out.
Peter Lee, Chairman of the Welsh Grounds Improvements Board said: “It is our aim to continue to help clubs like Denbigh Town to improve the facilities that they offer to the community.
“With the introduction of this scheme, we hope to help many more clubs improve their future prospects and at the same time close the gap between the standards of facilities in place at football clubs across Wales.”
