Wales show off new pitch to European counterparts

Wales’ boys under-16 squad will take on Switzerland and Belgium at home next month in a tournament to be run over three consecutive days.
The first of the three matches, between Wales and Switzerland, will take place on Tuesday, April 20, at Bryntirion Park, Bridgend, home of Welsh League Divison One team Bryntirion FC. Thanks to funding by the Welsh Grounds Improvement scheme the ground has undergone significant development since receiving £31,000 in grant aid in the last three years to improve facilities.
The club received £14,000 in 2008 to build perimeter pitch hard standing and fencing to enclose the ground, followed by a perimeter pitch barrier in 2009. This year Bryntirion FC received £3,700 for new home and away dug-outs.
Llanelli FC will host the second match between Belgium and Switzerland on Wednesday, April 21, with Wales facing Belgium at Newport Stadium the following day.
Born out of the Welsh Football Trust’s partnership with the Welsh Schools’ FA, the development squad represents the young talent that has been identified and developed from the Trust’s grassroots development programmes.
Manager and Welsh Football Trust Technical Director Osian Roberts is looking forward to seeing how his young protégés play competitively, and is keen to watch their developments alongside their European counterparts.
Osian said: “There are a number of very promising talents emerging from the development squad. It will be a challenging time for the boys involved, but a great lesson which I am certain will help them to progress and develop with the end aim of creating a side which can confidently compete on the international stage in future years.”
THE SQUAD WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER THIS WEEK
