Dorset Pub Syndicate Toast Lotto Win
By Effective Communication
A syndicate of pub regulars and staff in Dorset are drinking to their own good fortune – after pulling in a Lotto win of £58,622 in the National Lottery draw on Saturday 27th March.
The 38-strong syndicate are all regulars or staff at the Baker Arms in Blandford Forum, Dorset and will take a share of £1,542 each.
Pub landlady and syndicate leader, Caroline Dennett, who runs the pub with her husband Jim, said the money would be used among the group to buy everything from luxury holidays to baby car seats.
Caroline said: “Most of the winners are planning a holiday of some sort, as it’s just the right amount of windfall to treat yourself to a nice break away, but one of the syndicate members has just had twins – so he’ll be forking out for special twin baby car seats with his share of the win!”
The syndicate has been running since Caroline and Jim took over the Baker Arms three years ago. The group use a mixture of 16 chosen lines the rest on lucky dips, and play every Saturday. The oldest member of the syndicate is Albie Fudge at 83, and the youngest is Caroline and Jim’s daughter, Rachel Pike, who also works in the pub, at 27.
It was only when one of the bar staff switched on Ceefax during an afternoon lull at the pub, that the syndicate realised they had matched 5 numbers and the bonus ball.
Caroline doubled checked the ticket against the winning numbers, and the news spread fast among the pub regulars.
Caroline said: “The Baker Arms is a real local pub, and is definitely the hub of the community, so we’re delighted to have won this money and be able to share it out with so many of our regulars and our staff. Jim and I will either use our share of the money towards a holiday to Florida, or we might put some of it back into the pub and invest in a wood burning stove.
“I think we’ll also have a bit of a bash here to celebrate too.”
The winning numbers on Saturday 27th March were: 6, 11, 15, 32, 38, 42 and the bonus ball, 24. The Baker Arms syndicate bought their winning ticket at Tesco in Blandford Forum.
