Welsh Football Trust appoints North Wales officer

The Welsh Football Trust has restructured its pan Wales team following the appointment of Gus Williams as Regional Development Coordinator.

Based in North Wales, Gus will be responsible for overseeing some of the Trust’s key development programmes including, women and girl’s football, football inclusion and Futsal, the 5-a-side form of the game endorsed by UEFA.

Gus has previously worked in a variety of jobs including cake maker, bus driver and slot technician on a cruise ship, but his passion for football has been with him since school.

Gus, 39, said: “I travelled around for a while whilst working on the cruise ships and felt I needed to settle down. I have always enjoyed football and set out to gain qualifications in the sport.”

Gus first starting working for the Welsh Football Trust part-time in 2003 which he combined with a Leisure Management degree. During this time he worked with girls and boys regional and national squads as well as Welsh premier clubs.
 
After graduating in 2006 with honours and completing his UEFA ‘A’ Coaching badge, Gus was appointed as a full-time football development officer in Flintshire.

Gus’s current role will see him working with other regional development coordinators on the Trust’s main projects and providing support and guidance to the network of Football Development Officers in North Wales.

Gus said: “This is an exciting time for Welsh football at all levels and to be part of that is a fantastic opportunity for me.”

Neil Ward, chief executive of the Welsh Football Trust, said: “We are delighted to see Gus in this new role. The knowledge he has gained throughout his years in training, as well as his enthusiasm, will be a huge asset in his new role.”
