Award-winning engineering consultancy pays tribute to university

By Effective Communication

A South Wales start-up business has picked up its first award, and praised the help it received from the University of Glamorgan in getting the company off the ground.

TechSol UK, which provides design, engineering and product development consultancy, beat stiff competition to be crowned the Rhondda Cynon Taff Business Club’s ‘Start-Up of the Year 2010’, in association with Venture Wales.

TechSol Uk Director, Richard Barnes said the business’ success wouldn’t have been possible without support from the University of Glamorgan’s business incubation scheme, GTi.

Based at Navigation Park in Abercynon, ‘GTi’, which started out as the Graduate Teleworking initiative, is the University of Glamorgan’s business incubation centre – offering tailored support for start-up businesses; from meeting room and hot-desking facilities, to networking events, seminars and other business support services.

TechSol UK Director, Richard Barnes, said: “We were very fortunate with the assistance we received during the early days, particularly from the university’s teleworking facility in the Valleys Innovation Centre in Abercynon.

“Access to the GTi centre and its support was just what we needed. Without such a resource it would have been a huge financial uphill struggle from which we would still be recovering.”

TechSol was established in 2009 after Richard and fellow director Alex Pullman, both experienced engineers, realised there was a gap in the consultancy market. In just over 12 months the company has gone from a brand new consultancy to a highly respected business working with engineering companies nationally and internationally.

Now into their second year, TechSol UK Ltd is seeing strong growth in demand for their specialist services. As a result, they are moving into larger office accommodation and growing the team to support their rapidly expanding client base and workload.

Pam Voisey, GTi Project Manager, said: “TechSol UK is a true success story, and is a great example of how GTi can help people achieve their dream of running their own business, even in a difficult economic climate.”
