New appointment at Swansea dental surgery

By Andy Pearson

A THRIVING Swansea dental practice has signalled its intention to grow by employing its first trainee dental nurse.

Hannah Morrissey, aged 23, has joined Kee Dental Care and will undertake expert workplace training along with a two-year NVQ course.

Owner and principal dentist Darren Owakee, who oversees a staff of 19 at surgeries in Glanmor Road, Sketty, and on the Swansea University campus, said: “We’re delighted to have Hannah on board.

“As our first trainee dental nurse, Hannah will be an essential part of our team, helping to ensure that patients are well cared for.

“She’s a great character with a passion for dentistry and I’m confident that this will be the start of a great career for her. She is welcoming and reassuring to patients; she’s calm, friendly and efficient.”

Hannah, of Clydach, is a former student of Birchgrove Comprehensive School and Swansea College.

She said: “I had two and a half years of dental treatment as a teenager so I understand to some extent how being a dental nurse is an enormously worthwhile career.

“The job at Kee Dental Care is a dream come true and I look forward to working with Darren and his colleagues.”

Hannah was previously a carer at Pontardawe’s Gellinudd Hospital.

Her NVQ tuition will be delivered by Swansea-based Learn-Kit, Wales’ only specialist dental nurse training company.

Her salary is being subsidised by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Young Recruits Programme which encourages quality apprenticeships.

Kee Dental Care has a state-of-the-art approach to dentistry. Its fully private new Sketty surgery builds on the success of its university practice. Combined, the two surgeries now treat almost 10,000 people across Swansea.
