Swansea cabbies could get annual honour
By Andy Pearson
THE success of a Swansea salute to the city’s cabbies could see them enjoying an annual honour.
Staff at Swansea’s Village Hotel greeted dozens of taxi drivers when they were offered a free breakfast in praise of their work.
Village general manager Andrew Petherick said: “We had such a great response that we’re considering how we could make the event an annual salute. We’ve been enormously impressed by Swansea’s taxi drivers since we opened in SA1 three years ago and we’ve been eager to honour them publicly for some time.”
Chefs and waiters in the hotel’s Starbucks coffee shop and plush Verve Restaurant offered cabbies a free slap-up buffet breakfast and hot drink.
The all-you-can-eat Village breakfast is renowned for its size, quality and reliance on locally sourced produce.
Mr Petherick said: “Whilst most Swansea people are tucked up in bed, curled up on their sofas or out having a good time, the taxi drivers are helping the city’s economy tick over.
“Our tribute was a heartfelt gesture and honoured taxi drivers in one of the best ways we can do so.”
Terry Davies, manager and director of Swansea-based Data Cabs, said: “This was a great idea and we thank the Village for such a thoughtful gesture.”
