UEFA A-Licence participants’ final chance to shine

By Effective Communication

Former Welsh International Rob Page has joined Welsh Premier League players for the final residential of this year’s UEFA A-Licence course.

A Licence Part Two Candidates 2010

Participants attended lectures at the Village Hotel in Coryton where guest speakers Bryn Law, Gary Speed, Mark Williams and Martin Hunter discussed the media’s involvement in football, talent spotting and modern defending. Practical sessions took place in Treforest where educators mentored their respective candidates throughout the week, using video analysis to feed back information.

The course, run by the Welsh Football Trust, aims to educate candidates in the technical, tactical, physical and mental requirements of modern football, enabling them to organise coaching sessions in advanced skills, tactics, strategies and systems of play. This year’s participants must show their competence in handling professional players, training methods and analysing key fixtures, as well as developing important skills such as leadership, communication and time management.

The current candidates will get the final assessment decisions within the next few weeks.

The latest week-long session (9th to 17th June) marked the end of the current A-Licence format which sees participants completing the course over two years. The new structure, starting this week, will spread training sessions out over 12 months creating a better learning environment for the participants.

Welsh Football Trust Technical Director Osian Roberts said: “The students have been very professional throughout. I know that all the students have thoroughly enjoyed the course and have worked extremely hard and I wish them all the best in their coaching careers.”
