Wrexham favourite celebrates success of Welsh Football scheme
By Effective Communication
Ex-Wrexham and Liverpool footballer Lee Jones is celebrating a successful first year of a revolutionary scheme to improve the standards of children’s football across Wales.
The Fun Football Charter Mark accreditation scheme was developed last year by the Welsh Football Trust and aims to better the quality of soccer camps and football ‘fun days’. It is hoped that the accreditation will form the basis for a national standard which will provide coaches with the training required to help children develop the best possible football skills in a fun and safe environment.
Lee and his team of accredited coaches train up to 350 children across fifteen after school clubs every week in Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire as well as their daily mini kicker clubs for younger children.
Lee said: “We have been accredited for the past year and I think it’s a really important that other youth clubs join the scheme. Not only are the youngsters being coached correctly by qualified staff but parents are safe in the knowledge that their children are getting quality care and supervision. We have never looked back.”
Speaking of the success of the Fun Football Accreditation Scheme, Welsh Football Trust Fun Football Coordinator Jay Probert said: “It is extremely encouraging that somebody who has played football professionally, like Lee, is getting involved with the scheme.
“Parents and schools have been enthusiastic about the accreditation, and are welcoming of the peace of mind that their children are being trained by highly-skilled individuals who have undergone all the relevant safety checks to ensure they are delivering excellent sessions in a fun and safe environment.”
