Gwalia staff turn on the Oscars style

Over £1,000 was raised for South Wales charity, Play Right, at a movie-themed event in Swansea’s Morgans Hotel.
Grŵp Gwalia organised the event to recognise the work of staff members and to raise money for Play Right, whose supporting for young people is close to the housing provider’s heart.
Gwalia colleagues Elfed Roberts and Bekki Richards compered the event dressed as characters from Pulp Fiction and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Tables were named after Welsh actors and actresses and those who attended were encouraged to glam it up Oscars style.
Money was raised through ticket sales, an auction, raffle and movie quiz.
Auction items included a stay at Morgans, a Hudson guitar, an Ospreys signed ball and jewellery by Xander Kostroma, of Swansea’s Emi Clothing.
Pat Cutler, director of Play Right, said: “We had a great night, we’re so pleased that Gwalia chose to support us. We’re a local independent charity and the money will go a long way. I thank everyone who contributed.”
The night also acknowledged six individual Gwalia staff members and six Gwalia teams for their hard work. Shirley Harcourt was saluted for her excellent customer care skills, working on the Gwalia reception for nearly 20 years and playing an integral part in welcoming visitors to the organisation.
Dean Parfitt, a tenant support worker, won the Above and Beyond Award for staying with residents for five days when the project he works at was cut off due to heavy snow.
Gwalia chief executive Michael Williams said: “It was good to see so many staff enjoying themselves, celebrating their colleagues’ achievements.
“I was delighted to learn that staff collected over £1,000 for charity. A big thank you to all those who organised the event and to the marvellous comperes. The event was so successful I hope it will become an annual event.”
