Solicitor Sophie Pincott, of Swansea-based Peter Lynn and Partners, and barrister Lucy Leader, of the city’s Angel Chambers, plan to raise more than £6,000 for disability charity Scope.

For six days in great humidity they will walk on hilly paths, many accessible only by foot. The Great Wall features steep inclines and thousands of steps. Their 28 hours of trekking will see them cover more than 50km.

Their first fund-raising event comes on July 10 when they host a Thai-themed gathering at The Bay View, in Oystermouth Road, Swansea.

The black tie special is being sponsored by Peter Lynn and Partners. Tickets are available now.

Sophie, aged 30, said: “We want to give something back to the community and this once-in-a-lifetime trip allows us to do that.”

Lucy, aged 31, said: “The trip to China will be physically and emotionally demanding yet the reward for the charity will make it well worth it.

“Scope relies strongly on fundraising to maintain and develop its wonderful services for those with impairments such as cerebral palsy. We’re glad to be doing our little bit to help.”

The friends, who both live in Sketty, Swansea, travel to in China in September as part of an organised Scope adventure.

Alison Peet, senior events fundraiser at Scope, said:  “When Sophie and Lucy complete their incredible adventure, I’m sure they’ll feel that all their efforts have been worth it. I thank them for choosing to raise money for Scope and allowing us to continue our vital work with disabled people.”

Sophie was born in Swansea and attended Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, Gorseinon College and the College of Law, Guildford. She joined Peter Lynn and Partners seven years ago as a paralegal before becoming a trainee solicitor and a partner.

Lucy was born in Newport, Gwent, and was called to the Bar in 2002. She joined  Angel Chambers in 2005.

Scope is a disability charity with a focus on children and adults with cerebral palsy and people living with other severe and complex impairments.  The charity’s purpose is to drive the changes that will make our society the first in which disabled people are able to realise their full civil liberties and human rights.   Scope offers a range of overseas fundraising challenges.

The Great Wall of China stretches 4,500 miles from the Gobi Desert to the mountains of Korea. The Scope trek offers stunning scenery, challenging walking and a fascinating insight into an ancient culture. This five-day trek begins and ends in Beijing.
